Mesopotamia First civilization located between the Tigris & Eurphrates Rivers in present day Iraq; term means "land between the rivers;" Sumerian culture.

Polytheism Belief in many Gods.

Hammurabi King of the Babylonian empire; creator of the Code of Hammurabi, one of the world's oldest codes of law.

Pharaoh Ruler of Ancient Egypt.

Pyramid A huge building with four sloping triangle-shaped sides; built as royal tombs in Egypt.

Mummification Drying a dead body and wrapping it as a mummy.

Hieroglyphics an ancient Egyptian writing system in which pictures were used to represent ideas and sounds

Hatshepsut First female pharaoh.

Ramses II king of Egypt between 1304 and 1237 BC who built many monuments.

Monotheism Belief in a single God.

Covenant A binding agreement.

Phoenicians Sailing and trading people who had many colonies on the Mediterranean coast.

Reincarnation A second or new birth.

Nirvana A condition of great peace or happiness.
